Info: Snowiest place east of the Rockies, 250 inches of snow on average in the winter. This is a large state forest located in the Jefferson County towns of Lorraine and Ellisburg and the Oswego County Town of Boylston. Please be careful that you do not get lost on the trails. The Winona State Forest is located on the boundary of southern Jefferson County and northern Oswego County. It is east of Interstate Highway 81, west of Littlejohn Wildlife Management Area and is on the western edge of the Tug Hill Plateau (from the DEC website). Also known as Tourathon Ski Trails.
Directions/Location:
From Route 81 take Mannsville exit 39, then County Route
90 East through Mannsville. Around 2.75 miles out of Mannsville, County
Route 90 meets Dixon Road and turns to the right. This route bears left at the
intersection with Wart Road and then right at Brown Road. The historical CCC
camp is another mile down the road.
Alternate route: From Route 81
take exit 37 and go east through the village of Lacona to County Route 22, go
northward at this intersection
for about three-quarters of a mile to the Center Road, down Center Road about
five and a half miles is parking area.
Also note - parking areas are at the intersections of
Center and Wart Roads, at the intersections of Center and Bargy Roads, on the Dixon
Road, and at the CCC camp (in front of the buildings).
